Dave Hanson, from the popular hockey movie 'Slapshot', was in Phoenix Saturday to participate in a charity hockey game and to show the valley of the sun how to play old time hockey just like Gordie Howe.
Hanson, along with NHL alumni and local hockey coaches, played in a charity hockey game at Oceanside Ice Arena Saturday night with the proceeds benefiting the DYHA hockey program.
DYHA hockey director Sean Whyte said he sees hockey is growing in the desert and he says he believes the sport can thrive in Phoenix.
Hanson also joked that it was a treat to be able to play hockey in the desert Saturday night.
