TEMPE, Ariz. — As season 35 of Friday Night Fever, Arizona's No. 1 and longest-running high school football show, draws to a close, we are still finding new ways to honor the best high school football players in the state.
That's why, for the second year, we're handing out the Golden Arm Award, which goes to one of the top quarterbacks in the state.
This year, we are honoring McClintock senior quarterback Jaxon Knutson, who was the star leading the Chargers to their best season in 30 years.
Knutson was unstoppable this season, completing 214 of his 318 passes (67.35) for 3,796 yards and 47 touchdowns while throwing just five interceptions the whole season. Knutson also wasn't afraid to use his legs as he ran the ball 34 times for 182 yards and three touchdowns.
He led the Chargers to a 9-1 record in the regular season, the team's best mark since they went 10-0 in 1992.
Knutson's 3,796 passing yards were the most in 5A and second most in the state this season.
