ID=27549551Brittney Griner talked with the media on Monday after practice, the first day of the Phoenix Mercury training camp. It was Griner's first opportunity to talk publicly about her arrest for domestic violence last month.

She didn't make any excuses instead accepted the WNBA's seven-game suspension. Asked if she thought the league was too harsh in suspending her for 20 per cent of the 34-game season she responded; .

"I understand there are consequences for your actions. I accept those consequences and I'm not going to fight it."

Mercury head coach Sandy Brondello made sure her comments didn't come off sounding critical regarding the length of Griner's suspension:

"Look, everybody has their opinion and seven games is a lot in that regard. But the WNBA had to make a statement. We'll just support B.G. wherever we can and make sure she's prepared when she gets back on the court."

The Mercury held its collective breath when Griner fell hard in practice while attempting to block a shot. She landed on her back and right elbow. She stayed down for a few minutes before being helped off the court. She would, however, return and finish practice. She said she is okay and joked about having plenty of time to get completely healthy.
