TEMPE, Ariz. — The Tempe City Council voted Thursday to approve development plans for a new seven-story residential complex near the light rail route.
In an unanimous vote, the council approved an ordinance amending the zoning for a piece of property near Apache Boulevard and McClintock Drive for a mixed-use project. The site currently has a gas station and some retail shops.
The development plans submitted by Beus Gilbert McGroder PLLC describe a multi-story building that will house up to 275 residential units.
"The site is situated in an ideal location for a high-density, urban, mixed-use project given its adjacency to the Valley Metro light rail station at McClintock Dr and Apache Blvd," the development plans state.
The 8,400-square-foot project would also include retail space for small businesses and an open lobby area that can house arts vendors or a small beverage bar.
"This type of dynamic, marketplace-like environment will provide an affordable place for small local vendors to come, grow, and scale their businesses, while creating an exciting destination for the community," the plans state.
