Days after a video was released showing police aggressively arresting a man in Mesa, the subject of the arrest spoke to the media.
"I'm trying to get up enough courage for this," Robert Johnson said in a brief statement, his lawyers at his side. "I'm a family man. I'm a God-fearing person."
"I want Mesa to be held accountable for what they have done," Johnson said. "The stress and hurt."
Johnson was arrested on May 23. Surveillance video shows officers punching him repeatedly as they arrested him.
The Mesa officers were responding to a domestic violence call at the time of the incident. Johnson was a friend of the suspect.
