A Goodyear teacher has made his initial court appearance following his arrest.
Police arrested Millennium High School teacher Jared Blackstone, 31, Thursday on one count of luring a minor for sexual exploitation.
During a court appearance Friday, Blackstone was ordered to wear an ankle monitor. He was also ordered not to have contact with the alleged 17 year old victim.
Blackstone was released into the custody of pretrial services.
His next court date is May 20th for a status conference with a preliminary hearing set for May 27th.
Blackstone was booked into the 4th Avenue Jail in Phoenix Thursday afternoon, police said.
Meanwhile, detectives are actively investigating the allegations against Blackstone, the Goodyear Police Department said in a news release.
The school sent home a letter to parents Thursday which 12 News obtained a copy of.
The letter says, "Recently, the administration contacted Goodyear police regarding an allegation of an improper relationship involving one of our staff members and a student. A police investigation is in progress. School and District personnel are cooperating fully with police."
The statement added, "The safely of the students and staff is the District's highest priority," and the school and the District will continue to cooperate with police and will take every step necessary and appropriate to maintain the high standards they hold for students and staff.
District officials told 12 News reporter William Pitts they learned on Monday about the teacher's alleged involvement with a student and immediately placed the teacher on administrative leave. District officials also notified police Monday.
The situation apparently surfaced from a post on social media. The teacher is on administrative leave.
