Hundreds of parishioners gathered at St. Joseph Catholic Church for the first Sunday Mass since their chapel was destroyed in a fire on Wednesday.
Father Fred Adamson, Vicar General of the Phoenix Diocese, offered words of support to his parishioners.
"Always remember at the heart of our faith is Jesus Christ and nothing can take that from us."
Adamson said they will continue weekend mass in the annex building with shaded overflow access outside for as long as is seasonally acceptable.
"July, it'll be a little hot to be outside so we're going to try to see what we can do to best accommodate a larger crowd,” said the Father.
He said they plan to rebuild the chapel, but it may take some time.
"It's going to be a couple years probably before we'll actually be able to be in a new church," Adamson said.
Down the road, Emanuel Presbyterian Church celebrated their first Sunday Service since they were hit by Vandals the same night St. Joseph’s was engulfed in flames.
That church quickly cleaned up after a few thousand dollars in damages and resumed services.
"We really got off easy. Our biggest concern is keeping everyone in prayer over at St. Joseph's,” said Tom Jenney of the Emanuel Presbyterian Church.
Neighbors and businesses continue to offer support to the St. Joseph’s church.
