17-year-old girl killed, 4 others injured in Phoenix car crash

According to Phoenix police, a Kia Optima was traveling northbound on 32nd Street when it failed to stop at a red signal light at East Union Hills Drive.

PHOENIX — A 17-year-old girl is dead after a crash in Phoenix Wednesday night, police said.

The intersection at 32nd Street and East Union Hills Drive was closed after three minors were involved in the car crash, officials said.

According to Phoenix police, a Kia Optima was traveling northbound on 32nd Street when it failed to stop at a red signal light at East Union Hills Drive. The car then collided into a red 2006 Ford F-150 truck.

Officials said, the force of the collision caused the Optima to collide into a blue 2010 Ford F-150 truck.

The fire department transported the three occupants of the Kia Optima, all teenagers, to the hospital. An 18-year-old male was hospitalized in critical condition. Phoenix police said the rear seat passenger, a 17 year old female, died from her injuries.

Police identified the 17-year-old as Anika Zibell.

Two other people from the other vehicles were treated for minor injuries. The identities of the other victims has not been released.

The driver of the red Ford F-150 was processed for possible alcohol impairment and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
