PHOENIX — One person is dead after a shooting reported early Friday morning in south Phoenix.
At about 1 a.m., officers were dispatched to a neighborhood in the area of 51st and Southern avenues. Upon arrival, officers learned a man, 27-year-old Luis Eduardo Beltran Arteaga, had been shot. He was taken to the hospital and later died.
Phoenix police said a suspect, identified as 23-year-old Jose Luis Fajardo, was located in the neighborhood and taken into custody.
Police said Fajardo allegedly forced his way inside a local residence, shot the victim, then ran out of the home.
The suspect was allegedly involved in another incident before the deadly shooting near 47th Avenue and Van Buren Street involving Fajardo firing a handgun multiple times while fighting with a woman. Police said the woman was not injured.
