PHOENIX — A woman is dead after a crash on South Mountain Thursday afternoon. Emergency crews responded to the scene near 1000 E. Telegraph Pass Road on South Mountain for reports of the crash.
When officers arrived, Phoenix police said they found two juveniles injured. Both were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A woman involved in the crash also sustained serious injuries but did not survive the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. She was identified as 31-year-old Helena River.
Officials said only one vehicle was involved in the crash. Footage from Sky12 shows an SUV on its roof and debris covering the roadway.
Detectives arrived on the scene to investigate the incident. Initial information suggests the vehicle involved in the crash was going northbound on Telegraph Pass Road at a high rate of speed when the woman driving lost control and left the road. Authorities said the vehicle rolled several times before coming to rest.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, police said.
The investigation is ongoing. 12News will post updates here as we get new information.
