COTTONWOOD, Ariz. — A man was arrested this week for setting fire to three Cottonwood buildings more than five years ago, police say.

The Cottonwood Police Department says Joshua Daniel Dawson set fire to three buildings, including the City’s Human Resource & Finance office, on April 1, 2013. Police say he also tried to set fire to a bank and gas station.

After the initial investigation, all leads were exhausted and the case went cold until last year, when Yavapai County Sheriff's detectives received new information on an arson case they were investigating at the same time of the other cases. With that information, they were able to tie Dawson to the crimes.

Police say the Cottonwood human resource department suffered more than $380,000 in damages after the fire.

Dawson is now facing three felony counts of arson of an occupied structure.
