1 dead after crash in Laveen

Police say they found a woman unresponsive next to what appeared to be an ATV. The woman later died at the hospital.

PHOENIX — A woman is dead following a crash in Laveen, police said.

Phoenix police identified the woman as 53-year-old Kristy Gatrel.

Police said officers responded to a call regarding a single-vehicle crash at 35th Avenue and Elliot Road in Laveen, in Phoenix, just before 8:45 a.m.

When officers got to the scene, they found a woman, now identified as Gatrel, unresponsive on the ground next to what appeared to be an all-terrain vehicle or ATV. 

The woman was taken to the hospital where she later died from her injuries. Police did not release her name.

Police said detectives are on their way to the scene and did not provide any additional details regarding what led up to the crash.
