Valley father arrested after 2-year-old dies from possible overdose

The father allegedly told police he's addicted to fentanyl pills. He woke up to find his unresponsive son on the floor.

PHOENIX — A Valley father has been arrested after his 2-year-old son died from a possible drug overdose.

Oswaldo Lozano, 27, was taken into custody after he brought his child to a Phoenix emergency room on Dec. 1. The toddler could not be revived by medical staff.

Lozano allegedly told police he had fallen asleep earlier that evening while watching the child. When he woke up, he found the boy unresponsive on the ground. The father further observed fentanyl pills on floor, court records show.

The suspect claimed to have used a Narcan kit on his son in an attempt to reverse the effects of the opioids. When that didn't work, Lozano drove to a Circle K parking lot and asked an unknown person if they had any Narcan for his son.

The father administered another dose of Narcan on the child before calling 911 and taking the boy to the hospital.

Lozano allegedly admitted to being addicted to fentanyl and would ingest pills multiple times a day, records show. He was booked into the Maricopa County jail on pending charges of negligent homicide, child abuse, and drug possession.
