PHOENIX — An investigation is underway after Phoenix police fatally shot a suspect who pointed a gun at officers. No officers were hurt during the incident.

Police were initially called to 83rd Avenue and McDowell Road for reports that an armed man was harassing someone and had driven away from the area.

Police found the suspect's vehicle and tried to stop him, but he sped away from officers.

He was followed by helicopter to 79th Avenue and Mitchell Drive where he got out of the car and ran into a nearby backyard.

While officers were surrounding the area, one of them made contact with the suspect who then pointed a handgun at the officer. It was at that point that Phoenix police shot the man.

First responders pronounced the suspect dead on the scene. There are no injuries to officers, police said.

Police haven't released the man's identity.

This is a developing story; additional details will be added as they become available.
