TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — An Arizona man is accused of smuggling over 37,000 rounds of ammunition and nearly 2,650 rifle magazines plus numerous body armor plates and several handguns from the United States into Mexico from 2016 to 2018.
The Arizona Daily Star reports that 35-year-old Marco Antonio Peralta-Vega of Nogales pleaded not guilty Friday in U.S. District Court in Tucson to a smuggling charge in a Feb. 6 federal indictment.
According to court documents, the government alleges that Peralta-Vega arranged delivery of the ammunition and other items to his home and then turned them over to somebody else to take across the U.S.-Mexico border.
An attorney representing Peralta-Vega did not immediately respond to an email sent Saturday by The Associated Press seeking comment on the allegations.
