PHOENIX — This week has seen heavy monsoon rains roll through Arizona—some areas getting a couple of inches in less than a few hours.
The first monsoon rains usually marks the end of Arizona's wildfire season. However The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management warns fires can happen year round.
During the monsoon, fires can be started by lightning strikes. Also the nature of the monsoon can leave some areas still pretty dry and more vulnerable to high temperatures after the storms move out.
Fire chances are reduced during the monsoon, allowing Arizona to share some of its firefighters with California.
Members of the Avondale fire Department said they have been extended another seven days to help combat wildfires there.
