PHOENIX — One person sustained fatal injuries Saturday morning after they were ejected from a bus on Interstate 10 near 7th Street in Phoenix, authorities report.
The crash occurred after the bus left the traveled portion of the roadway and struck the center median barrier, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.
Phoenix Fire Department officials said that 23 people were on the bus and several were taken to the hospital. Most injuries were reportedly minor, but one adult was transported to the hospital in "extremely critical condition."
DPS confirmed one person died as a result of being ejected from the bus. The deceased individual has been identified as 39-year-old Liliana Rivera-Cruz of California.
The driver of the bus was treated for a minor shoulder injury. Impairment is not suspected.
The crash remains under investigation.
