Cardinals to start rookie quarterback Josh Rosen next Sunday

Rosen played the final two possessions of Sunday's game against the Bears.

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks announced Monday that rookie first-round pick Josh Rosen will get the ball at quarterback next Sunday against Seattle.

Veteran quarterback Sam Bradford started each of the first three games for the Cardinals, but after an 0-3 start, the team is looking to take it in another direction.

"Josh is our starter," Wilks said Monday. "It's his job to lose."

The Cardinals offense has struggled in each of its first three games. The team scored just six points against the Redskins in week one and none against the Rams in week two.

Sunday looked like it would be a different story after Sam Bradford threw two touchdown passes on his first two possessions of the game to give the Cardinals a 14-0 lead.

But, Bradford threw two interceptions in the second half and fumbled the ball late in the game, setting up a Bears possession that would give them the go-ahead field goal.

After Bradford's three second half turnovers, Wilks gave the ball to Rosen with 4:34 left in the game. After a few completions came a questionable call to run the ball with Chase Edmunds on 3rd down and 2. Edmunds was stuffed at the line and Rosen threw an interception on the following play.

Rosen played one more possession but the Cardinals ran out of time before getting into field goal range and ultimately lost 16-14.

Rosen finished 4-for-7 with 37 yards and an interception. Bradford finished 13-for-19 for 157 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions and two lost fumbles.

Through three games, Bradford was 50-for-80 with 400 passing yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions. He is last in yards and tied for last in touchdowns among three-game starters this season.

Rosen is now the third rookie-quarterback this year in the NFL to get the ball after not starting at the beginning of the season. Baker Mayfield of the Browns and Josh Allen of the Bills are the others. Sam Darnold has started for the Jets since week one.

The Cardinals host the 1-2 Seahawks next Sunday.
