Cardinals take care of business, beat Saints 20-15

After a solid showing from starting quarterback Sam Bradford, rookie quarterback Josh Rosen followed it up with an impressive performance of his own in Arizona's 20-15 victory.

NEW ORLEANS - Coming into Arizona's second preseason game, there were some questions about the offensive efficiency displayed in week one against the Chargers. After a couple of dead-end possessions, the Cardinals got it rolling.

After two takeaways in the first quarter and a forced three-and-out in the first quarter, the Cardinals defense was doing its job. The offense was stalled until this point, but on a late first quarter possession, the Cardinals marched down the field.

The first quarter ended with Arizona on the New Orleans 9-yard-line with a 3rd down 2 to go. On the first play of the second quarter, David Johnson bulldozed his way into the end zone thanks to the help of his offensive linemen, pushing him from behind.

Sam Bradford was done for the night after this, but not before completing six of six passes for 61 yards. All six completions were to different receivers. Johnson was also done after his touchdown, he finished with six carries for 22 yards and a touchdown.

After an interception from Bene Benwikere, who has been impressive this preseason, rookie quarterback Josh Rosen took over the offense. On a strong drive down the field (with the help of a 40-yard defensive pass interference penalty), Rosen capped the drive off with a touchdown throw to fellow rookie Christian Kirk.

Rosen would finish throwing 10-for-16 for 107 yards and a touchdown. Kirk, who is in a competitive receiver battle for the spots behind Larry Fitzgerald, finished with four catches for 49 yards and a touchdown.

The Cardinals defense was impressive, forcing four turnovers. Although, veteran star quarterback Drew Brees and reigning rookie of the year running back Alvin Kamara did not play in the game for the Saints.

The Cardinals head to Dallas next Sunday to take on Ezekiel Elliott, Dak Prescott and the Cowboys. That game will kick off at 5 p.m. on 12 News.
