Biden speaks in Phoenix to major Latino civil rights group

Biden talked about the impact of the Trump Administration's get-tough policies on the border and urged Latinos to vote this year.

Former Vice President Joe Biden spoke Friday night at the annual convention of LULAC, one of the largest Latino civil rights groups in the country.

The 2020 presidential election might be on Biden's mind, but LULAC's 15,000 conventioneers are focused on 2018.

Earlier Friday, LULAC members protested the separation of families at the border, with a march to a Phoenix shelter that's housing young migrant children.

First Lady Melania Trump visited the same shelter a few weeks ago.

Biden talked about the impact of the Trump Administration's get-tough policies on the border.

The 2020 presidential election did not come up. The former vice president is a front-runner in the large Democratic field.

Earlier this week, Biden said he would make a decision on the race by next Janaury

In an interview with CBS News this week, President Donald Trump welcomed Biden to the race with some trash talking.

"I dream about Biden. That's a dream," Trump said.

"Joe Biden ran three times. He never got more than 1 percent and President Obama took him out of the garbage heap, and everybody was shocked that he did."

Right now, Biden is focusing on 2018 politics.

He's the special guest at a Friday afternoon Phoenix fundraiser for Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Kyrsten Sinema.
