Tempe Healing Field, tribute to those who died at the Sept. 11 attacks

Thousands visit the display of American flags to share with new generations the day that changed our country forever.

Thousands of American flags are on display in Tempe thanks to volunteers who got up bright and early Saturday morning.

The Tempe Healing Field serves as a tribute to those who died during the September 11th attacks.

Although it’s been 17 years since that tragic day in American history, the event’s turnout included hundreds of young people

“It’s very important to remember what happened September 11th, 2001 and I bring my grandson with me,” said Daniel Shepard.

Shepard like many parents, grandparents, volunteers said the Healing Field next to Tempe Beach Park is more than just a symbol.

It’s a chance to show instead of tell the younger generation what happened that day that changed America forever.

“I know I wasn’t alive during 9/11 but like I think it’s a good thing to honor,” said Park Shepard.

The memorial organized by The Exchange Club of Tempe has been going on for 15 years – every year it receives thousands of visitors.”

More than 300 hundred volunteers were at the event. Organizers say they need just as many people to come back to help take down the flags on September 12th.
