Talking Stick Resort will open Monday after weeks-long storm recovery

The storm happened in the middle of the Arizona State Poker Championship, which was canceled as a result of the damage

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Talking Stick Resort will reopen Monday, Sept. 24 after being closed more than a month due to flooding from a storm Aug. 10, according to a release from the resort.

Hundreds of people were evacuated from the resort and hotel early the morning of Aug. 11 as floodwaters swept through the first floor of the resort, knocking out power. Those on the casino floor experienced power outages during the night, and firefighters helped evacuate the hotel.

The storm happened in the middle of the Arizona State Poker Championship, which was canceled as a result of the damage. Several concerts were postponed or canceled, as well.

Earlier this month, the resort and casino was set to be closed through the end of September.

The first concert in the resort's fall concert series will be Sept. 30, featuring Boy George and Culture Club, as well as the B-52s.

The casino also announced it will offer a series of promotions beginning Oct. 1, including $150,000 in cash and prizes.

It's not clear how expensive the recovery has been for Talking Stick Resort.
