Spring break in Arizona: Lost Dutchman State Park

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz.- At the base of the Superstition Mountains is one of the most scenic camping spots close to the Valley. But it's still far enough away to get some fresh air.

This season, the Lost Dutchman State Park is adding a way to camp in style and even stay cool during the months when temperatures rage in the desert.

Walking through paths of blooming wildflowers, hiking the rugged Sonoran Desert rocks, sharing lunch next to a saguaro -- these are just a few activities at your fingertips at Lost Dutchman State Park.

About an hour east of Phoenix, the state park filled with legend and mystery, offers dozens of popular trails leading into the Superstition Wilderness. Keep your eyes open for deer, javalina and jackrabbit in the nearby Tonto National Forest.

Take your mountain bike for a cruise. New this year, you can even beat the heat in the park. Brand new air conditioned cabins are set to open at the beginning of April. Until then, tent and RV camping are the best option for relaxing or trying to solve the legend of the Lost Dutchman's gold.
