Spring break in Arizona: Dark skies and lots of open land to group camp

Oracle State Park is about two hours southeast of Phoenix in the northern foothills of the Catalina Mountains.

ORACLE, Ariz. - Working the nine to five can become a mundane routine really quickly, making that spring break vacation even more important to maximize on.

So why not grab a big group and check out one of the newest camping opportunities in the state? If you love the desert southwest’s open skies during the day, then you’re going to enjoy the endless night sky in Southern Arizona even more. This is Oracle State Park.

It’s about two hours southeast of Phoenix in the northern foothills of the Catalina Mountains.

Here you’ll find more than 15 miles of hiking and biking trails, in this 4,000 acre wildlife refuge.

Keep an eye out for the gray fox, bird sightings & spiny lizards that are all nestled in the rolling hills of the high desert.

One of the biggest draws is the fact that it’s an International Dark Sky Park, making it one of the best places to view starry nights in the state.

Brand new this season are group campgrounds, where up to 15 groups can camp together. For more information on Arizona State Parks, click here.
