PHOENIX — A hiker is in the hospital in extremely critical condition on Saturday after suffering a medical emergency while hiking, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.
Phoenix Fire says the man, who is in his 40s, was hiking Shaw Butte, near 7th Street and Thunderbird Road, when they were called just before 3:30 Saturday afternoon.
Bystanders reportedly gave first aid to the man while technical rescue crews got to the scene.
Crews were able to get the man off the mountain safely with the help of Phoenix Park Rangers.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital in extremely critical condition.
The man has not been identified.
