Scottsdale police arrest driver in fatal head-on crash, say he may have been impaired

He faces charges of manslaughter and aggravated assault.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Police arrested a man on felony charges upon his release from the hospital Saturday, days after he caused a head-on collision earlier this week.

Police say 33-year-old Fredrick MacArthur was traveling eastbound McKellips Road Thursday when he drifted into the westbound lanes, hitting another vehicle head-on, killing a person and injuring another.

The second vehicle was occupied by 27-year-old driver Michael Edwards and his 34-year-old passenger, Jessica Bailey. Bailey died from her injuries and Edwards was seriously injured.

Police believe that MacArthur was impaired at the time of the collision. The exact cause and level of his impairment are still under evaluation.

MacArthur faces charges of manslaughter and aggravated assault.
