Recap: First day of Monsoon 2018 brings rain

We're in for a wet evening in parts.

The season has officially started. Monsoon 2018 is here!

And on the first day of monsoon, Mother Nature gave to us: rain chances and the opportunity to break that 95-day dry stretch in Phoenix.

8:47 p.m.

After a short break, there may be storms in the Phoenix area. Lindsay Riley has the latest information.

4:45 p.m.

3:18 p.m.

12 News meteorologist Lindsay Riley says lightning and light rain will continue through 6:30 p.m., then showers will become more widespread through the overnight hours. We could see thunderstorms across the state Saturday afternoon. This threat should diminish around sunset Saturday.

2:55 p.m.

Radar shows an "L" shape of moisture moving north into Arizona From Mexico. Storms may pop up across the southern half of Arizona and in the Phoenix area all evening.

2:27 p.m.

12:09 p.m.

The chance for rain will increase through the day, mostly for Maricopa County and east from there, according to the National Weather Service in Phoenix.

Friday morning Team 12's Jimmy Q said the models are bringing the heaviest rain further east into New Mexico.

But Phoenix could see between 0.1" and 0.25".

Around lunchtime Friday, light showers were passing near Tucson.
