PHOENIX - A pregnant woman has died after being shot while driving a car in north Phoenix Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The woman was taken to a hospital in extremely critical condition, police said. She died a few hours later. The health status of the unborn child is unknown.
"I saw how she was just covered in blood, it was like something I've never seen before. I really don't wish it upon anyone in this world," a witness said.
Police said a man believed to be the woman's boyfriend shot the woman with her 6-year-old girl in the back of her car after an argument. The car then rear-ended another vehicle, police said.
The shooting happened north of 7th Street and Northern Avenue.
Police said the boyfriend ran from the area before he was apprehended shortly thereafter. Aerial footage from Sky 12 showed officers putting a man in a red shirt into the back of a Phoenix PD SUV in a QT parking lot near the scene.
