Police: Wife hears gunshots, sees husband shot in driveway

Phoenix Police are treating he investigation as a homicide and said they do not know if the suspect(s) ran off or drove away.

Update: This story was initially published in February. It has been updated to include the family's GoFundMe account.

PHOENIX - A husband and father of two died after being shot in his driveway near 51st Avenue and Thunderbird Road.

Police identified the victim as 34-year-old Allen Saka.

Around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Saka heard a suspicious noise outside his home, so he went out to investigate, police say. His wife heard gunshots and ran outside to find her husband.

"As soon as he walked out, the guy who was standing here, he just shot him right away," said Saka's close friend Revon Issa.

His wife and 4-year-old son were right behind him when he was shot and witnessed the horror unfold.

"They almost got shot too," said Issa.

When paramedics arrived, Saka was transported to a nearby hospital and was pronounced dead, according to police.

Family, friends and neighbors think the killer was trying to break into Allen's truck. The back window of the truck in his driveway was completely smashed.

"He has no enemies. I'm sure," said Issa when asked about a possible suspect.

Saka and his family moved to the United States five years ago from Iraq in search of peace and a better life.

"We run away from our country so we don't get killed. He got killed here," said Issa.

Phoenix Police are treating the investigation as a homicide and said they do not know if the suspect(s) ran off or drove away.

Saka's wife said the shooter was a man but wasn't abe to get a good description because it was too dark.
