Phoenix Suns' Tom Chambers charged in altercation at Scottsdale restaurant in April

According to Scottsdale PD spokesman Sgt. Ben Hoster, there's a pending case in Scottsdale City Court involving Tom Chambers.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Former Phoenix Suns' great and current commentator Tom Chambers was involved in an altercation with another man at a Scottsdale restaurant back in April, according to a police report of the incident.

According to Scottsdale PD spokesman Sgt. Ben Hoster, there's a pending case in Scottsdale City Court involving Chambers.

Chambers is charged with two counts of assault and one count of disorderly conduct.

The police report said on April 15 Scottsdale police officers responded to an assault at Isabella's Kitchen.

"Remarks for the call stated someone had grabbed the reporting party's neck and threw him against the ground," the report said.

According to the report, the restaurant manager told police the two guys "were bantering back and forth" before it escalated and the two got into a fight. She pointed out the man who called to police.

The report identifies that man as Alexander Perry Bergelt. He told police, according to the report, "I had Tom Chamberlain strike and choke me out." He meant Tom Chambers.

Bergelt told officers, "Chambers came at him from across the bar, grabbed him by the throat and threw him backward," according to the police report.

The police report said the responding officers noticed a small cut on Bergelt neck and a bruise on his lip. His eyes were bloodshot; he was unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol, the report said.

Bergelt told the officers he had a "couple of mixed drinks" and hadn't struck Chambers during the incident, according to the report.

At witness of the incident told police, "All I know is the old guy attacked the young guy," according to the police report.

Bergelt was charged with disorderly conduct.

According to the report, police later interviewed Chambers, who told officers Bergelt was "belligerent, calling him names while he was with his girlfriend."

Chambers said the insults went "on and on" and he pushed Bergelt outside and told him "dude, you need to chill out."

According to the report, Chambers said there were "no swings, no nothing," but he "absolutely put hands on him."

Chambers told the officers they "wouldn't have a problem finding people saying he did everything the way it should have been done."

Sgt. Hoster said there was never a "physical arrest" in the incident.
