Saturday's shooting marked the 64th officer-involved shooting in Maricopa County this year

PHOENIX — Phoenix police say officers shot and killed a man during a felony warrant arrest Saturday afternoon.

The shooting took place in the area of 15th Avenue and Roeser Road just before 5 p.m., police said.

According to police, the man, who police later identified as 28-years-old Andres Arteaga, ran from officers and pointed a gun at officers who were trying to arrest him.

Police said Arteaga tried to run into someone's garage. Officers used a stun gun on him but it had no effect.

The Phoenix Police Department later clarified that when Arteaga pulled out a gun from his waistband, officers shot him.

A police spokesperson said Arteaga was pronounced dead at the scene.

Saturday's shooting marked the 64th officer-involved shooting in Maricopa County this year and the 35th for the Phoenix Police Department.
