Phoenix family of 15 escapes from burning west Phoenix home

The six adults and nine children are staying in a Red Cross emergency shelter.

PHOENIX — The Red Cross is helping a family of 15 in west Phoenix after a fire destroyed their home overnight.

Investigators are still trying to figure out what sparked the fire in the home near 59th Avenue and Camelback Road. They said the fire started in the garage and then quickly spread to the attic.

“The whole house is pretty much covered in soot. A total loss,” said Nicholas Miller, a contractor who was hired by the City of Phoenix to board up the home.

The six adults and nine children all managed to escape the burning home. The family is staying in a Red Cross emergency shelter.
