One officer fired at the man with the gun, striking him multiple time. The injured man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

PHOENIX - An officer injured a man after he pointed a gun to a police officer Friday night in west Phoenix.

The suspect who pointed a gun to police officers while an attempt to arrest another man, has been booked into jail for aggravated assault and possession of weapon by a prohibited possessor.

Lazaro Curiel, 39, was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries Friday night.

Police identified 28-year-old Roberto Verdugo as the man they were arresting when Curiel pointed his gun at officers.

Shortly after 9 p.m. Friday, Phoenix police officers found a car belonging to a man wanted for felony domestic violence charges and an outstanding felony warrant near 91st Avenue and McDowell Road. Verdugo approached the car and officers began to arrest him, police said.

During the arrest, police said another man standing outside the house where the car was parked pointed a handgun at one of the officers.

One officer fired at the man with the gun, striking him multiple times. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

While the officers were dealing with the armed man, Verdugo fled the scene.

A police helicopter and K9 officers helped find the man nearby and he was taken into custody, police said.

The gun was recovered at the scene and no officers were injured.
