Man found dead in Phoenix canal

Authorities were called to a canal near 20th Street and Osborn Road for reports of a body in the water.

PHOENIX — A man was found dead in a Phoenix canal early Wednesday morning, city police officials confirmed.

Officers were called to the area of 20th Street and Osborn Road around 2:20 a.m. for reports of a body in the nearby canal. The Phoenix Fire Department helped to recover the man from the canal, and he was pronounced dead on the scene.

Detectives stepped in to handle the investigation. At this time there is no word on whether or not police suspect foul play.

The man's identity has not been released.
