A facility believed to be holding migrant children was evacuated after people inside smelled and odor and saw smoke Saturday morning.
The Southwest Key facility in Youngtown, Arizona, evacuated the toddlers, children and teens inside while fire crews discovered a light fixture that was emitting smoke, according to a public information officer with the Sun City Fire Department. Youngtown is a suburb of Phoenix.
The children have been returned to the facility since the incident.
At about 8:30 a.m. Saturday, several fire crews responded to the facility where there was a report of odor and smoke. About 20 children were taken away from the facility in vans, where they waited in a church parking lot for the "all clear."
It took crews about one hour and 15 minutes to discover the source of the smoke and odor in the building.
These facilities have faced recent criticism, as many have been used to hold children who have been separated from their parents at the border. Arizona's Southwest Key facilities mostly mostly house children who came across the border by themselves.
Southwest Key has five Arizona facilities: Phoenix, Glendale, Mesa, Youngtown and Tucson.
