Chandler Fire Department grieving death of Captain Mark Boulanger

The fire department announced Monday that Capt. Boulanger died Sunday night from lung cancer.

CHANDLER, Ariz. — The Chandler Fire Department is grieving the death of Fire Captain Mark Boulanger.

The department announced Monday that Boulanger lost his battle with lung cancer Sunday night.

Boulanger served Chandler for over 25 years, according to the fire department. "Bo," as his colleagues called him, was a "true leader."

According to the Chandler Fire Department, Boulanger was continuously chosen to mentor new firefighters and paramedics as he represented the highest level of what a firefighter should be.

"He was passionate about his family and work and was quick to share his contagious smile and laugh when he talked about either," Chandler FD said in a Facebook post. "Mark, a dedicated professional, was continually striving to improve each day."

Just last month, Boulanger was recognized as the 2018 Chandler Firefighter of the Year and was able to enjoy a celebration with his colleagues.

He is survived by his wife and son, as well as his firefighter family, who were all at his side in the hospital in his final moments.
