Apartment residents helping each other clean after homes flooded

Two to three inches of rain came into about 30 apartments on the ground floor.

Clean up is underway at an apartment community in Mesa following Thursday’s storms.

Gabriel Nava lives with his daughter in the Brookview apartment complex in Mesa. Thursday night his apartment along with more than two dozen other units on the first floor flooded.

"This is what we have and who knows when repairs are going to get done,” said Nava.

Gabriel, right, has been helping neighbors clean up after rain flooded their apartments August 10, 2018.

Just across from Gabriel, live Terry and his wife Carole. They’ve been renting this unit for four years. In 2015 they say it flooded, but never this bad.

"I didn't like it, I was getting scared, my two dogs were scared, my wife,” said Terry.

Neighbors spent the morning reaching out to the apartment’s manager, but as of late this morning, no answer.

“I’ve got high blood pressures, a bad heart, 12 to 15 bad ulcers and it’s all stress,” said Terry.

Meanwhile this tight-knit group is only growing closer because they say they have no one else.

“We are rebounding we are a community and that’s what’s it about being there for each other,” said Nava.
