Prescott Valley found to be safest city in northern Arizona for 2018

The report was compiled by the National Council for Home Safety and Security.

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The National Council for Home Safety and Security has compiled its annual list of Arizona's safest cities with Florence, Ariz. coming in first overall for 2018.

The study was based on findings from the FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics and did not include cities with less than 10,000 people.

Prescott Valley was the highest ranking city in northern Arizona, sitting 13th out of the 40 cities included in the report

"It's a good feeling that our people can walk down the street day or night and feel comfortable," said Prescott Valley Mayor Harvey Skoog.

Skoog attributed much of the cities success to the police department.

Serious crime statistics show that the city has seen a 10 percent decrease over the last three years, according to Prescott Valley deputy James Edelstein.

"What makes a community safe is the trusting relationship it has with the police department. What we do at the police department is fostering trust with the community, so the community calls us when they need us," said Edelstein "I feel like that is at the foundation of our city."

According to Skoog, the city has the youngest population in Yavapai County.

"It’s a family community," he said. "And I don’t know, we just have good people, I guess. Maybe we’re lucky."

The report also showed that Show Low has the lowest amount of violent crime and Phoenix has the highest.
