The Pima County Sheriff's Department says a suspect is dead after a chase, collision and foot pursuit near Casino Del Sol in Tucson on Saturday night.

According to a media release, deputies were involved in a vehicle pursuit that went into the parking lot of Casino Del Sol on West Valencia Road around 10 p.m.

A Pascua Yaqui Police Department vehicle was struck by the suspect vehicle at the casino, PCSD says.

Following the shooting, the sheriff's department says, an armed man fled the car and ran into the desert area nearby.

According to the media release, two deputies followed and fired at the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff's department later identified the suspect as 39-year-old Vincent James Ewer II.

No PCSD deputies were injured, but a Pascua Yaqui police officer suffered minor injuries in the collision with the suspect's vehicle.

A department K9 officer also suffered minor injuries. The dog was treated and released to his handler, the sheriff's department said.

The sheriff's department identified the deputies who fired their weapons as Deputy Paul Petropoulis, a 22-year veteran, and Sgt. Aaron Cross, a 17-year veteran.

The investigation is ongoing.
